DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (WPBF) – Two people were taken to hospital and a building was evacuated after a confirmed tornado passed through the Kings Point community on Tuesday evening.

It happened just after 9 p.m. Tuesday. Kings Point is a community for people 55 or older.

The National Weather Service confirmed Wednesday morning that the tornado touched down in Kings Point.

WPBF 25 News crews at the scene said large trees were tossed to the ground, cars appeared mangled and parts of buildings were completely torn and heaved off.

A building in the neighborhood was deemed unsafe by authorities and was evacuated, officials said.

All residents of Kings Point are told not to return to their residences at this time. If anyone is concerned about medication, they can go to the South County Civic Center at 16700 Jog Road in Delray Beach and be assisted by a medical professional.

Two people were taken to hospital, including a woman who became trapped after the roof collapsed on her.

Electric trucks were in the neighborhood as early as 4 a.m.
