Those considering using emergency shelters, remember that shelters are a last resort and should only be used by those who live in homes that are potentially hazardous to high winds (e.g. mobile homes , prefabricated houses and others), people who live in flood-prone areas. prone areas and people who have nowhere to go safely.
Special needs shelters provide one cot per patient, not the caregiver. Caregivers are asked to bring the necessary bedding. When packing for a shelter, please bring special diet foods and any prescription medications. Also bring a change of clothes, personal care items (hygiene, toiletries, etc.), spare glasses/contacts, and ID.
