TRUMANN, Ark. (KAIT) – Eastside Baptist in Trumann has been rebuilt in the past 7 months after the church was directly hit by an EF3 tornado.
Trumann’s First Baptist invited into the small church in 30 and even hosted Eastside Baptist services.
Pastor James Harold said, “People from the state of Alabama, from the state of Louisiana, and we don’t even know those people, I mean they showed up in great numbers.”
Harold said the donations meant a lot to the church and helped the building process. The church has just installed a new roof and restored electricity and water.
Deacon Kenny Gunter, the church treasury, said the estimated repair costs are over $400,000. Insurance covers some of these costs, but donations and other funds help.
Harold said: “Yes, the cost of rebuilding is quite high, plus the cost of materials, but we also have a business that we believe in.”
Harold mentioned that Eastside Baptist is lucky to have found a great contractor just days after the tornado destroyed the church.
The church moved a few members after the tornado destroyed their homes, but they still attended all services via Facebook Live.
Despite the tornado and other adversities, the church did not miss a single service.
Gunter says construction is on schedule and should be finished in a few months.
