BAYWOOD, Virginia. – Storms in recent afternoons have brought heavy rains, frequent lightning and damaging winds to parts of the region.
A storm in Grayson County spawned a brief tornado Tuesday afternoon.
The Blacksburg National Weather Service confirmed Thursday that the twister was rated EF-1 with maximum winds of 95 mph.
This is the fifth tornado to hit the area this year. Most notable is the one that occurred in late May in the Goode/Forest area.
For Grayson County, this is the fourth tornado since 1950.
You can see a brief video of the tornado, submitted by Kendra Frazier, below.
@NWSBlacksburg is currently “coordinating with Grayson County Emergency Management regarding storm damage to this area. It is unclear if this feature ever made contact with the ground.”
