On Sunday, the daily number of Covid-19 cases in Hong Kong fell below 2,000 for the first time in five days, but officials said that was likely due to the typhoon.
The Center for Health Protection reported 1,681 new local Covid cases and 147 imported infections. There were no new Covid-related deaths.
The center’s Albert Au said that as testing centers were closed during Typhoon Chaba on Saturday, patients confirmed by PCR tests were a few hundred fewer than in previous days.
Meanwhile, a cluster outbreak at a Kwun Tong hotpot restaurant has spread to 14 cases, after three more customers tested positive for coronavirus.
Health officials took ten environmental samples from restaurants and all came back negative.
Authorities said one of the patients caught Covid in March but may have been re-infected at the restaurant.
