First alert cancelled; Gusty thunderstorms, possible evening showers – NBC10 Philadelphia

What there is to know

  • Be aware of the weather on Sunday as there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the Philadelphia area.
  • An early warning, originally issued for locally damaging winds, hail and a weak tornado, was canceled.
  • Before the stormy weather, temperatures reached 70 degrees with partly sunny skies.

Partially sunny skies and early fall temperatures didn’t last too long on Sunday afternoon, but the thunderstorms and showers that passed through our area didn’t stay either.

The NBC10 First Alert weather team has canceled the first alert originally issued for severe thunderstorms throughout the Philadelphia area through 10 p.m. Sunday.

The fast-moving system had the potential to locally cause damaging winds, hail and even a brief or weak tornado. However, after dumping rain in the Philadelphia and southern New Jersey area, it quickly moved out of the area.

Some showers and isolated gusty storms may still persist in New Jersey and Delaware, as well as southern points of the Jersey Shore, through 11 p.m. Sunday.

The majority of storms are expected to dissipate before midnight, but the remaining storms are expected to leave the area by 1 a.m.

Make sure you have the NBC10 app downloaded to receive severe weather alerts and the latest forecasts wherever you are.
