Forecasters monitor 2 systems as the end of the hurricane season approaches


With only one month to go until the end of the hurricane season, forecasters are tracking 2 systems with the possibility of development.

The system is expected to turn north and move to cooler waters by the middle of next week.

The second system is located in the eastern tropical Atlantic and produces disorganized showers and thunderstorms several hundred kilometers south of the Cabo Verde Islands.

By the middle of next week, the system is expected to move north over cooler waters and no further development is expected.

The last major hurricane was Sam, which formed in late September. It strengthened in a Category 4 storm as it crossed the Atlantic. The last tropical storm was Victor which collapsed earlier this month.

The next name on the storm list is “Wanda,” ending the 2021 Atlantic Tropical System list of names. At this point, forecasters will need to use the alternate list of names. In the past, the Greek alphabet was used, but this was changed this year.

There have been 20 named storms during the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season. NOAA previously predicted that 15 to 21 named storms are possible this season, with seven to ten becoming hurricanes and three to five of them. they become major hurricanes, that is to say of category 3 or more.

Hurricane season ends on November 30.
