AMERICA – The Georgia Southwestern women’s basketball team defeated the Georgia College Bobcats 72-47 on Saturday January 8 at the Storm Dome. With the win, the Lady Hurricanes are now 10-2 overall this season and 2-1 in the Peach Belt Conference game.
GSW was behind by four points at the end of the first quarter, but in the second quarter the Lady Hurricanes found their rhythm, edging the Bobcats by 15 points after. Yasmine Perez gave GSW the spark they needed to take control of the game. Perez came off the bench and landed three straight shots, including two three-pointers, to help the Lady Hurricanes take a 37-26 lead at half-time.
The third quarter was a low scoring defensive battle, with the two teams scoring just 20 points combined. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Canes opened the game by edging the Bobcats 12 points behind the two Ava jones and Jolicia williams 100% shooting from the field.
Jones led GSW with 16 points and scored 4 of 5 three-pointers. It was Yasmine PerezIt’s 10 points off the bench that gave GSW the spark they needed to secure their 10th win of the season and it gave Perez player of the game honors. Simone Lett finished the game with six blocks, tying the ten-year-old program record.
The Lady Hurricanes travel to St. Augustine, Fla. On Wednesday, Jan. 11 to face Flagler College in their fourth conference game of the season. Departure is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
