The two new Kuwaiti Air Force Eurofighters have just been delivered.

Sporting the provisional serials MT 55269 and 55270, the third and fourth Eurofighter Typhoons for the Al-Quwwat al-Jawwiyya al-Kuwaytiyya (Kuwait Air Force – KAF) landed at Ali al Salem Air Base, west from Kuwait City on Mar 29. 2022.

As explained, Kuwait should receive 28 Typhoons: 22 single-seaters and 6 two-seaters. The Typhoons will be equipped with the first variant of the Captor E AESA radar, the ECRS Mk 0, as well as P3Eb (Phase 3 Enhancements Package b) multi-role functionality and the Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod, in what is considered the Typhoon the most advanced. never produced. This specific configuration was developed and tested in Italy with the Typhoon ISPA 6 (Instrumented Series Production Aircraft).

The contract for the 28 aircraft, worth approximately 8 billion euros (9 billion USD) in total, was signed in April 2016 after the signature of a first memorandum of understanding in September 2015. The Kuwait is Eurofighter’s eighth operator, after Austria, Italy, Germany and Spain. , Oman, Saudi Arabia and United Kingdom. The first flight of the first two planes took place at the Leonardo factory in Caselle near Turin, in northwestern Italy, on October 15, 2021.

On February 25 and 26, 2022, the first two typhoons were among the highlights of National Day and Liberation Day, Kuwait’s most important holidays, which commemorate the country’s independence from the United Kingdom in 1961 and the liberation from Iraqi occupation in 1991, taking part in the military parade flying in formation with three F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets and a KC-130J tanker, before ending the parade with a few solo overflights at low altitude.

The KAF Typhoons are the first to be equipped with the AESA radar.

In fact, the Italian Air Force trains Kuwaiti cadet pilots to obtain their military pilot license; the advanced training for the operational conversion of the latter on the Eurofighter to the OCU type (Operational Conversion Unit) of the 20° Gruppo (Squadron) of the 4° Stormo in Grosseto, and the training of aircraft maintainers for the same aircraft.
