SUMMARY… An isolated high wind and tornado threat is expected to continue with storms moving east this morning. Downstream standby transmission is considered.

DISCUSSION… A bow line is progressing fairly rapidly eastward through parts of the southern/central AL this morning, aided by strong warm low level advection coupled with a low level jet of 45-55 knots to the south. Most of the line remains high at 1215Z, with a continued lack of recent reports of strong/damaging winds. The southern portion of the line (mostly across southern LA) and any discrete cells that may form ahead of it are currently expected to have the best near-term severe potential. Strong low-level shear remains favorable for rotation of the updraft, and any storms that may become surface-based may pose a tornado threat in addition to damaging winds. The main limiting factor still seems to be that the rapid eastward advance of the ongoing convection generally outweighs the more substantial moisture return in the lower layers. Yet, a few bands of confluence have recently developed ahead of the line across the extreme south of the SM to the south coast of the AL. This area should have the best chance of severe thunderstorms this morning as surface dew points increase in the mid to upper 60s. Downstream tornado watch is being considered for more of southern AL and portions of western FL Panhandle.
