Miami Hurricanes baseball has risen further in the rankings.
Despite losing Sunday’s final of their three-weekend series, the formerly fifth-ranked Canes won Friday and Saturday games against Pittsburgh and were rewarded Monday with a ranking as high as the No. 2 by at least one of the polls used in college baseball. .
UM (31-9, 16-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) rose from No. 5 to No. 3 in polls published by D1Baseball, Baseball America and in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Miami went from No. 4 to No. 2 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll.
“We have to stay positive and move forward,” UM coach Gino DiMare said after UM’s 9-4 home loss to Pitt on Sunday. “We are going into the home stretch here and we have some really tough games. I have to finish strong.”
The ACC-leading Hurricanes have won 18 of their last 21 games, including a 14-game winning streak from March 23 to April 12.
The Canes next meet Stetson at 6 p.m. Tuesday at home, followed by a three-game weekend series at ACC Georgia Tech (25-16, 10-11) in Atlanta.
