Miami Hurricanes BBQ gets positive reception from rookies

The Miami Hurricanes hosted an impressive roster of rookies for the inaugural barbecue under new head coach Mario Cristobal and his team. Several recruits and prospects were in Coral Gables over the weekend to meet Miami staff, see Hurricanes facilities and connect with other rookies.

Miami currently has the ninth recruiting class nationally. according in the 247 Sports composite ranking. Offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa is Miami’s highest-rated signing and the only five-star player in the 2023 Hurricanes class. Mauigoa would have been one of the top recruiters in the 2023 Miami class.

Several rookies and in one case the mother of one of the prospects were impressed with what Miami had to offer this weekend. Keri Jackson is the mother of 2024 247 Sports Three-Star Defensive Lineman Kendall Jackson and a Florida fan through her Twitter account and she said “Miami did not disappoint”

Keri was reiterating what her son had originally said. Miami has 2024 commitments from four-star safety Antoine Jackson and kicker Abram Murray who announced his commitment to the Hurricanes on Sunday. Antoine and Kendall Jackson and Murray were two of approximately 20 2024 prospects at the Miami barbecue.

Jaylen Bell, a 2025 prospect who has made visits to Alabama, Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Tennessee according to On3 tweeted that he had an amazing visit with the Miami Hurricanes over the weekend at the BBQ. Bell is too early in the recruiting process to have received a ranking.

Miami had 10 of its 16 commitments of 2023 in Coral Gables for the barbecue. This strong performance should have helped the Class of 2023 commitments recruit potential future teammates. Miami welcomed between 60 and 64 rookies this weekend. Mario Cristobal and his team continue to have an impact on recruiting.
