MOL donates $ 60,000 to victims of Typhoon Odette



Mitsui OSK Lines, Ltd. (MOL) will donate $ 60,000 through its group company in the Philippines, Magsaysay MOL Marine Inc, for the reconstruction of affected areas in the Philippines following Typhoon Odette. MOL President Takeshi Hashimoto announced the donation for relief efforts following Typhoon Odette which hit the central and southern Philippines on December 16, 2021.

MOL maintains close ties with the Philippines and its people as it recruits a significant number of Filipino seafarers and has established a training facility and university for seafarers in the country. “The MOL prays for all the victims of this disaster and expresses its sincere sympathy to all those who suffered from the typhoon and its aftermath,” he said.

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) provided financial and operational support to ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts to areas affected by Typhoon Odette. PPA Managing Director Jay Daniel Santiago signed Circular Memorandum (MC) 23 directing all port managers, terminal operators, cargo handling operators and shipping companies to prioritize vehicles, equipment, people and cargoes involved in relief loading and unloading operations.

“We will ensure that necessary relief and recovery items and equipment arrive where they are needed as quickly as possible. We do not need unnecessary delays in the delivery of relief items, especially when lives are lost. are at stake, ”Santiago said. . The MC gives priority to berthing and dispenses with entry formalities to ships used exclusively in intervention, rescue and reconstruction operations. A special lane has been designated to process the documents and authorizations required for cargo, vehicles and equipment involved in rescue operations. PPA has waived the payment of Passenger Terminal Fee (PTB) and the payment of RO-RO Terminal Fee valid for 30 days or until January 20, 2022.

The Secretary of the Department of Transport (DOTr), Arthur Tugade, ordered the relevant agencies, including PPA, to immediately implement measures to ensure the unhindered delivery of relief items to the areas affected by “Odette”. Tugade wanted to ensure that passengers stranded by Odette in the various ports are accommodated.
