Two naughty toddlers have been caught in the act after unleashing a tsunami of paint – covering the entire kitchen and soaking themselves head to toe in paint.

Hayley Kidd, 27, from Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, had the kitchen remodeled on Monday while her children Bonnie, four, and Harry, one, played outside in the garden.

She went upstairs to use the toilet while the kids were busy, but when she returned less than five minutes later the two youngsters had smeared a can of white paint all over themselves and the whole kitchen , including the floor, cupboards and surfaces.

Hayley explained that she left the paint on the kitchen side but Bonnie came up to the surface and used a ladle to throw paint around the room and at her younger brother.

A hilarious photo captures the toddlers caught in the act, with Bonnie crouching over the exploded bucket, the two dripping in white paint which also coats all surfaces and has left the floor a sea of white.

The getaway is estimated to have cost Hayley at least £500 as she says she has to replace the oven, air fryer, microwave and even the plug sockets, which have failed since they encountered the paint .

Hayley said: “It’s probably the worst day of my life, but it was funny and it’s done now.” There is always something in our house.

“I started painting my kitchen and the children were playing outside in the garden. While they were playing, I thought I was going to run upstairs. So I went to the bathroom, then I spotted a pile of laundry on the stairs so I picked it up and put it on my bed.

“I can’t describe how quickly it happened. It was less than five minutes. I went down and was confronted with this.

“I had no words, there was a moment of pause and silence as I picked it up. Bonnie had pulled a ladle out of the drawer and was swinging it and tossing it across the room at my other child which is why he was covered with it.

“They saw my presence and said ‘oh no, we’re in trouble’. I just asked them what they had done and she said she was sorry.

“I try to be a gentle parent, so I took a deep breath. Bonnie asked me if I was mad and I just said I wasn’t happy with them but I’m done now.

The kindergarten teacher rushed the children upstairs for a shower before using cereal boxes to scrape off the paint and she ended up spending 12 hours trying to clean up the mess.

Although she managed to save most of the kitchen, Hayley will have to replace the microwave, oven, and air fryer, all of which are badly damaged by paint.

Hayley said: ‘I just took them upstairs in the shower so I squirted more paint all over the way. I showered them, which was a traumatic experience for them when I was trying to remove the paint.

“Harry doesn’t sleep without me so I had to lay there for an hour while the paint dried and all I had to do was go downstairs and my brother had already started cleaning for me.”

Hayley said the whole getaway took place in five minutes, during which the kitchen was destroyed and the two toddlers were covered.

“We had to use cereal boxes to scrape it up. I ended up having to take Harry to bed and deal with him the next morning. I was cleaning from about 6am until 6pm.

“I managed to get most of it up, but there are drops that look awful. There is still paint in some places that I can’t get it off. I have to replace the microwave, oven, fryer and the outlets keep tripping.

Hayley shared a photo of the paint-smeared toddlers on social media and commenters urged her to dump Bonnie and Harry and buy a new house.

The post has racked up over 3,000 likes, shares and comments.

One commenter said: ‘Hahaha. Oh Hayley. My god, kids at their best. Honestly, you have the thrill of a Saint. I would have glued both of mine in paint and thrown the whole thing away.

Another said: ‘I think if my kids did this I should finally split up. I can’t even begin to imagine what went through your mind walking into this. I would probably scream the house.

Hayley said: “I thought I was going to get slammed for leaving out the paint, but people thought it was funny because so many people can relate to it.

“I was literally gone for a few minutes. I learned my lesson, I know what children are capable of in such a short time.

“Some people said they would put their children in the trash or bury them in the garden and others said burn the house down and buy a new one. It shed light on the situation because I was in and out throughout the day.

“They look like little angels, they don’t look like they’re doing anything like that but they’re like little demons.”
