Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM) has improved its capabilities after the arrival of three new attack ships.
This during the arrival ceremony to welcome the 4th Boat Attack Division of the Philippine Fleet,
NFEM Public Information Officer Lt. Nicheru Brien Claudio said Multi-Purpose Attack Craft (MPAC) is part of the naval assets of the Philippine Navy’s Active Archipelagic Defense Strategy.
The event was led by its commanding officer, Commanding Officer (CDR) Malone Agudelo and held at DPWH Dock, Naval Station Felix Apolinario.
The craft, part of the 4th BA Division, is to be used to perform quick interception, perform quick attacks, perform precision fire and deliver missile strikes in support of NFEM and the Eastern Mindanao mission Command (EMC).
Claudio said the attack boats are also capable of providing ground troop support, point defense, force/security escort, medical and casualty evacuation, and limited personnel transport.
Each attack boat is equipped with an extended range missile launch system, mini typhoon machine gun system, light machine guns, automatic rifles and pistols.
With a cruising speed of 30 to 35 knots and a maximum speed of 45 knots, they will be able to pursue fleeing enemies during Hot Pursuit operations, he added.
“It underwent weapon system integration last year, which is why it is equipped with the Spike ER weapon system to the Mini Typhoon machine gun system, capable of launching missiles. Compare with boat attacks in the 1st and 2nd division,” the official said.
