“Paeng” rains flood Isabela’s bridges and farms



CAUAIAN CITY, Isabelle: The Baculod, Cabagan-Santo Tomas, Santa Maria-Cabagan and Cabiseria 8 overflow bridges were flooded on Saturday due to swelling Cagayan and Pinacanauan rivers, disaster board reports said.

Heavy rains were dumped in the past five days by the shear line and typhoon “Paeng” (international name “Nalgae”).

Farms were also flooded, forcing villagers to take their livestock to higher ground.

About 70 families were preemptively evacuated to Aggasian and Fugu villages in Ilagan town.

The water level of the Magat Dam reservoir at 9 a.m. on October 29 was set at 187.04 meters above mean sea level, while the inflow was 869.91 cubic meters per second (cm) and the flow rate was 468.61 cm.

A 200 m3 by 1 meter high valve was opened at the dam, according to engineer Carlo Ablan, head of the integrated irrigation system division of the National Administration of Magat River Irrigation.

The Burgos-Ilagan road in the town of Burgos in Isabela was also temporarily closed as heavy rains flooded the area, preventing motorists from crossing except for trucks and high-frame cars, the office of Disaster Risk Reduction Management of the City of Burgos.
