ST. GEORGE- A Lancair ES plane flying from West Valley in southern Utah overran the runway trying to land at General Dick Stout Field in the hurricane on Friday night.
“They didn’t know the airport very well and went too far down the runway and ended up in the ditch,” said Dan Raddatz, public information officer for the Hurricane Police Department.
The aircraft veered off the runway at 8:23 p.m. The driver probably didn’t leave enough room to brake, Raddatz said.
The pilot, a 48-year-old man, and his passenger, a 45-year-old man, suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.
Raddatz said the plane suffered damage to the forward propeller.
