Millions of people were affected by this typhoon and supplies such as food, water and electricity are scarce.

That’s why Lea Harvey, who was born in the Philippines and now lives in Cuyahoga Falls, is doing all she can to help.

Harvey moved to Ohio in 2014, but his whole family still lives in the Philippines.

She was video chatting with her cousin when the storm hit.

“I saw and heard something throw up on its roof, like big boulders,” Harvey described. “I heard all the sounds of the wind.”

Harvey felt helpless with his family thousands of miles away.

“I don’t know what to do,” she recalls. “So I told my husband that I will find a way to help my Philippines.”

She decided to sell her homemade spring rolls on Facebook to help people in her home country.

Spring rolls are a traditional dish in its family. Harvey’s mother prepared them for every big party.

So far, dozens of people have supported his efforts by placing orders.

“I am so overwhelmed. I’m like ‘oh my god’ I only thought a few people would order to add to my fundraiser but people order 12 pieces, 20 pieces, 30 pieces and they keep adding, “she said . “I’m like ‘ok, ok that’s gonna help a lot.’”

She is excited to share her culture with the people here in Ohio while helping those in need in the Philippines.

“It will break your heart,” she said. “Literally, they have nothing left.”

If you would like to order Spring Rolls or donate directly to Harvey’s Relief Fund, you can message them on Facebook.

“It’s our way of helping. Not just our village, but the whole province, ”she said.
