You are browsing TikTok one night, eyes cloudy but refusing to give in and go to bed, when something catches your eye. It looks like a Polaris RZRbut it doesn’t tear up the sand dunes in Baja – that’s on the the water. Rubbing your eyes doesn’t clear up the confusion, because you got it right the first time. It’s not a RZR at all, but a prototype for the Shadow Six Typhoon.

While it may look like a side-by-side that’s been gently placed atop two personal watercraft by a forklift, the Typhoon’s construction is much more thorough. It uses two supercharged Yamaha PWC motors and a set of aftermarket Polaris RZR plastic fairings, but the company says the rest of the build is completely custom—from the bottom of the shells to the top of the frame.

The central idea of ​​Typhoon, according to creator Ryan Goldberggoes something like this: personal watercraft are fun to ride, but the whole “being outdoors” part is so work. You have to deal with the sun and salt water, and who wants that in their life? What if you could ride a personal watercraft, but had a roof and long-travel suspension to isolate you from the sky and waves? Surely that’s better, right?

So Goldberg got to work, designing and building a custom frame that combines two watercraft hulls with the kind of off-road suspension common to side-by-sides. Although it sports aftermarket Polaris RZR fairings, the frame underneath is an all-titanium custom job. Much of the rest of the construction is carbon fiber, keeping the Typhoon lightweight. And, did I mention that Yamaha twin motors are a combination six hundred horsepower?

Interestingly, while the PWC hulls on the bottom clearly does not correspond to first patent images for the Typhoon, they also don’t seem to line up with the Yamaha GP1800R SVHO skis where the project draws its transmissions from. Although it is possible that this first prototype will use another cheaper watercraft hull as a base, the company maintains that these cases are handcrafted specifically for the typhoon.

Dave Bamdas of Riva Motorsports, exclusive dealer of the Typhoon, says that production will begin with model year 2023. Pricing is yet to be published on Shadow Six’s website, but Goldberg said it will sit tight about a quarter of a million dollars. It remains to be seen whether it will arrive by then (or not at all) and the final price.
