Scattered thunderstorms are extinguished and Monday as a warm front rises during the afternoon. We actually have two rounds of storms – one round continues into the early afternoon and another on Monday evening.

An early warning has been issued for Monday night’s round, where these storms could become severe. Damaging winds and hail will be possible, along with a brief tornado threat in northern and western New England. Heavy rain will also accompany these storms, so watch for a brief risk of urban flooding.

The storms die down by the time they reach Boston and Cape Cod late Monday evening after sunset. Then overnight, storms and showers persist in northern New England and Maine. The wind remains generally gusty from the south-southwest overnight, especially on Cape Cod, with gusts around 35 mph.

Monday’s highs will hit 80 degrees with high humidity if the sun breaks through the clouds long enough.

The cold front that is causing the severe storms on Monday evening will slowly move away from the northeast on Tuesday morning, although a lingering shower or storm will still be there for dawn.

Temperatures soar into the 80s and low 90s on a gusty westerly wind. Tuesday marks the start of a heat wave for many.

Further highs in the 90s are expected throughout the week with wetter air especially on Thursday.
