MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) expects a tropical storm to enter the Philippines’ area of ​​responsibility today.

But given its trajectory, PAGASA said the weather disturbances may not affect the country’s weather conditions and could disappear as quickly as 24 hours.

In its tropical cyclone advisory yesterday, the Meteorological Office said Tropical Storm Nyatoh, which will be locally named Odette once it enters the Philippines’ area of ​​responsibility, was sighted 1,455 km east of the Philippines. Visayas yesterday morning and moving west at 20 km / h with maximum sustained winds of 65 km / h near the center and gusts up to 80 km / h.

“His duration in the Philippines area of ​​responsibility is currently expected to be short, as he could leave the region within 24 hours of entry. However, the public is advised to continue to monitor a possible eastward or westward shift in the tropical storm track forecast, ”he added.

Based on the projections, the tropical cyclone is expected to intensify into a severe tropical storm over the next 24 hours and very favorable conditions will allow Nyatoh to transition to the typhoon category by Thursday and could peak at d. ‘about 140 km / h.

“This tropical cyclone is less likely to affect the weather conditions in the country over the next three to five days. In view of these developments, the public and relevant disaster risk reduction and management offices are advised to continue to monitor updates related to this tropical cyclone, ”PAGASA said.
