USAFE Integrates With Arctic Fighters During Exercise Baltic Operations > Air Force > Article Display



The Baltic Operations 2022 exercise, called BALTOPS, is United States European Commandfirst annual sea-based exercise in the Baltic region to be held June 5-17. The exercise provides a unique training opportunity to strengthen the combined response capability essential to preserving freedom of navigation and security in the Baltic Sea. This is the 51st iteration of the series of exercises that began in 1972.

US Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa is providing air support in various capacities throughout the exercise, which included air-to-air refueling capabilities during Thursday’s mission.

US Air Force KC-135 aerial refueling platforms Royal Air Force MildenhallThe 100th Air Refueling Wing provided tanker support to Finnish F-18 Hornets and Swedish JAS-39 Gripens, German Eurofighter Typhoon and US Navy F/A-18 Hornet.

The unique ability of the KC-135 to refuel both probe and drug aircraft allows the United States to integrate into a variety of coalitions the partners. The aerial refueling function extends the range and range of aircraft, giving them the ability to fly longer, faster and farther to achieve mission and training objectives.

USAFE-AFAFRICA aircraft regularly operate in the Baltic Sea region to assure Allies and NATO partners of our shared commitment to regional peace and security.
