CITY OF KANSAS, Mo. – Melvin Molina and Marco Vazquez, who led the Concordia Texas men’s soccer team to their first-ever conference championship and place to the NCAA tournament, continued to reap playoff awards on Tuesday , both having been named United Soccer Coaches All-Region selections.

Vazquez and Molina, who ranked one and two among the Tornados’ attacking goalscorers in the 2021 season, were both named to the USC Division III Region X second team after each having had career years.

This is the second time in three years that the program has seen two players win honors from all regions, as Vazquez and Zack Kusak received the accolades in 2019.

This is Vazquez’s second selection to the USC Area Second Team after a historic season for the junior from Spring, TX.

He scored the team’s 11 best goals this season, the second most scored by a CTX player in a single season, and was named the Southwestern Conference Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

In the ASC game, Vazquez led the conference in goals and points, finishing with 10 goals and 22 points en route to his third consecutive ASC first-team selection, joining Kusak as the only players in history. of the program to be the first ASC three times. The honored team.

Meanwhile, Molina made a huge impact on the Tornados in her debut season with the team to win her first-ever USC All-Region honor.

The San Marcos, Texas native was a key playmaker for CTX in midfield, setting the program’s single-season record for assists, scoring nine over the season. Molina has also contributed with six goals this year, earning her the team’s second place behind Vazquez.

He was named to the ASC first team for his performance and won the ASC tournament championship, scoring the tying goal in the second half against Hardin-Simmons.
